Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray diluted his pitch against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, saying his party would take a call once the BJP took a decision on the matter.

He added that he has already given his best wishes to the Gujarat chief minister.

Asked about his remarks on Friday about there being no “credible leader” at present, Thackeray said: “What I had said yesterday (Friday) about the country needing a reliable face was in the context of Congress which is currently ruling. I was talking about the Congress.”

He also said that his late father Bal Thackeray’s blessings for senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj for the post of Prime Minister had come when there was no leader in sight for the top post, adding that as the decision wouldn’t be taken within “four walls”, he didn’t want to complicate matters.

While the JD(U), which recently broke with the BJP over Modi’s elevation, was a constant source of embarrassment for the BJP, the Sena has also asserted on and off. Many feel Modi’s good relations with Raj Thackeray is a reason.
