Sarsanghachalak, Mohan Bhagwat announced that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would not discard khaki shorts or allow pracharaks (workers) to marry, as there was no consensus on these two issues.

Interacting with local media, for the first time after taking the reins of the saffron organisation in March, Bhagwat said: “As a section still feels that wearing half-pants is a matter of convenience and marriage demands responsibilities of running a family, hence both the proposals were kept pending.”

On the marriage of pracharaks, he said that the topic was taken up in a few meetings but no full-time pracharak had ever said that he wanted to end his celibacy and yet work in the same capacity. Several pracharaks had entered family life after completing their duty.

“If any pracharak wants to marry, he is always welcome to do so. However, he will not work as a pracharak. We always encourage grihasth ashram. We want more family men than pracharaks,” Bhagwat quipped and claimed the saffron organisation was transforming with time.

Bhagwat refused to comment on the bickering in the BJP saying: “You better ask such questions to leaders of that party.”
The RSS supremo strongly opposed reservation for minorities. “The concept of reservation should purely be on the social and economic status. What the government is doing is vote bank politics.”

The RSS chief said that an independent high-power committee should be set up, comprising of intellectuals, educationists, social pundits, scholars and politicians to finalise a new reservation policy. It should also decide the duration of reservation and come out with a time-bound programme.
