Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh has said the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme of the Centre will not be implemented in the state.

Dr Singh made the announcement while addressing a programme in Gariaband district yesterday.

He said transferring cash in place of ration materials to ration card holders was not practical.

Pointing out that Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to implement the Right to Food Act, the chief minister said the legislation will be utilised to strengthen the public distribution system (PDS).

He said the Supreme Court and the Planning Commission have praised the PDS system of Chhattisgarh. Several ministers from the Centre and other state governments have visited and lauded the implementation of PDS in the state.
