Work on a six-lane bridge across the Yamuna — between a proposed Delhi Metro bridge and the Kalindi Kunj barrage bridge — will begin in May.

The Noida authority on Thursday said it had earmarked a budget of Rs. 300 crore for the construction of the bridge, which will improve connectivity between Delhi and the NCR city. It will be ready in three years, said an authority official.

According to authority officials, the detailed project report (DPR) of the bridge will be finalised by April-end.

“The DPR will be finalised by April-end. We hope that the Central Water and Power Research Station in Pune submits its feasibility report about the bridge by that time. Once we get the DPR and the feasibility report, an agency will be selected and work will start on ground,” said a senior authority official.

The authority had roped in the central water and power research station, Pune, to conduct a hydraulic study into the feasibility of the proposed  bridge.

The bridge will serve as an additional link between Noida and Delhi. It will also connect the cities to Faridabad. The bridge was conceived during the previous Bahujan Samaj Party regime, but work was halted due to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2012.

However, the Samajwadi Party government has also shown interest in the project and work on it will start soon.

This bridge has been included into Noida’s master plan 2031 as traffic influx on this route is expected to cross 1.5 lakh in a couple of years.

“The new link will de-congest the Kalindi Kunj bridge and DND Flyway, which witness long snarls during peak hours,” said an official.
