Though Srinagar continues to wait for snowfall on New Year, the northern districts of the valley experienced fresh snowfall on Friday.

According to the state disaster management cell, a fresh snowfall of 7 to 8 inches was recorded in tourist resort of Gulmarg, bringing cheer to the tourists and locals.

According to a government spokesman, the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road was cleared for traffic movement. "Inner roads of Gulmarg, hotel links and parking were also cleared," he said.

North Kashmir's Tangmarg also recorded 2 to 3 inches of snowfall while Rafiabad recorded 5 to 9 inches.

"The Baramulla-Tragpora-Shatloo-Rohama-Panzla roads were cleared of snow," said the spokesman.

Higher reaches of Baramulla Kandi and Sheeri recorded 4 to 7 inches.

In Gurez, fresh snowfall of 20 to 24 inches was recorded. "The snow clearance operation was in progress, despite continuous snowfall," said the official.

Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was open for one way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar. As many as 15 flights were operated normally on Friday from here, said the spokesman.

In the wake of fresh snowfall, the Divisional Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued medium danger avalanche warning for avalanche prone areas of Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Keran, Machil, Gurez, Tulail, Sonamarg, Drass and higher reaches of Gulmarg and Uri Sectors on the basis of information from SASE.

"People living in higher reaches of these areas have been advised not to venture in avalanche prone areas, during the next 24 hours. People living in these snow-bound areas are advised to keep cleaning the snow from roof top of their houses to avoid any causality due to roof collapse," said the spokesman.
