They are all scions of political families who derive their power from their papa. As Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator, Hemant Soren, becomes the 9th chief minister of Jharkhand, he also enters the club of chief ministers who are in the hot seat thanks to their fathers.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna are the other members of this club.

Former Jharkhand chief minister, Shibu Soren had inducted Hemant -- second among his three sons -- into politics way back in 2005, but anointed him his virtual heir in 2010 soon after the demise of his eldest son, Durga Oraon.

The demure man has grown in maturity and confidence since then and went on to become the deputy chief minister in the Arjun Munda-led coalition government in 2010.

“I am sure he would perform better with a focus on eliminating poverty,” said an elated Shibu Soren. Due to health reasons, Shibu has been out of active politics for a couple of years now.

Hemant Soren’s younger brother, Basant Soren, assists him in his work, but is yet to enter active politics. Hemant’s wife, Kalpana Soren, is a homemaker but is a confident speaker and man manager.

An engineering college dropout, Soren is the youngest chief minister of Jharkhand.
