Preliminary investigations reveal that the boy, Omar Rehaman, son of Abdul Rehman studying in Class 8 at Azam Public School, Palma, was first strangulated and later hanged from a tree in the forest.

Manzoor Hussain Shah, the village sarpanch, said that Omar had gone to visit his uncle at Dana village, about 6-Kilometre from Palma, on Friday. "He left for his house at about 7am, but when he did not reach by 12pm his mother, Arida Begam, tried to contact him over phone, but it was also switched off," he said.

She then called his aunt to confirm whether her son has reached or not. When she was told that Omar has not reached, she decided to visit Dana village. When she reached Tatapani, she overheard people talking about a body of a boy which was found hanging from a tree in a nearby forest.

She was shocked to see that it was her only son. People informed the police at about 1pm and later the body was brought to the hospital for legal formalities and postmortem.

Angry residents stage protest against police

Meanwhile, angry residents raised slogans outside the hospital against the police for its failure in controling the increasing crime in and around Rajouri city.

District SP Mubassar Latifi, SP Sanjay Sharam and DSP, operation, Ayaz Sheikh reached the hospital and pacified the people.

After holding discussions with the family members, political and religious leaders, the district SP assured that the police would solve the murder mystery within seven days and if anybody was found involved  in Omar's death, he would be put behind bars.

He also said that the killers of 7-year-old Shalik Mansoor, who was allegedly killed by a young couple on Tuesday to extort money from his father, have been identified and that they would brief the media about their identity.

After legal formalities and postmortem the police handed over Omar's body to the family members for last rites and have started inquest proceeding under Section174 of the CrPC in the incident for which a SIT has been constituted.

Some reliable sources said that the involvement of some close relatives of the deceased Omar Rehaman cannot be ruled out. However, deceased's uncle Nawaz Hussain, a constable in Territorial Army (TA) and posted at Uri, who was on leave, said that the family had no dispute with any relatives.
