In his first interaction with bureaucracy, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi met Union home secretary Anil Goswami on Monday for a briefing on the internal security situation of the country.

“Before the meeting with Modi, the home secretary had asked for one-page briefing on important issues from all divisions of the ministry.

Joint secretaries handling key assignments like internal security, North-East, Maoist management personally briefed the home secretary before he left for a meeting with Modi in the evening,” said a joint secretary in the ministry on the condition of anonymity.

Officials were asked to list all key issues pending in their respective divisions which may need immediate attention of the new government.

Though Modi is yet to get an invite from the President to form the government but since he has won the election and his party declared him the PM nominee, there was nothing wrong in home secretary meeting him on key issues.

Goswami, however, refused to divulge the agenda of the meeting. An official said it was kind of familiarisation exercise for Modi about country’s internal security situation.
