One dead in blast outside wine shop in Jammu

One person died and five were injured in a grenade attack outside a wine shop in Jammu city on Saturday evening. It was the second attack in the last 48 hour in the state on wine shops.

According to the police, some unidentified people threw grenade outside a wine shop, at Narwal in Jammu at about 7pm.

Kuldeep Kumar, son of Rekhi Ram resident of Akhnoor died on the spot. The injured were shifted to the Government Medical College.

“We are investigating if there is any connection with the Srinagar shoot out outside wine shop. Security has been tightened through out the city and police has been put on high alert,” said IGP Jammu Dilbgagh Singh.

Police said it’s still investigating if it was grenade attack or some thing else.

Two people had died in a terrorists attack at wine shop in Hemal complex at Dal Lake on November 15. While one died on the spot, the other succumbed to injuries on Friday.

Though terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen had denied involvement in the attack but said owners of liquor shops should take up other means of livelihood.

“Hizbul along with is fighting against cultural aggression…. Owners of liquor shops should take up other means of earning. No one will be allowed to spread social and cultural waywardness in the Kashmir,” said the statement issued by HM on Friday after the attack

J&K has 224 wine shop of which 134 are in Jammu district and only four in Srinagar district. In addition to the liquor is served in 140 bars and restruants .

Liquor shops are only in Srinagar district only.

The state had Rs. 34.94 crores excise revenue in the financial years 2010-11 and 2011-12. Out of which, Rs. 26.56 crores were  earned in Jammu division and Rs. 8 croes in Kashmir division.

Hardliners had earlier issued dress code diktat this summer to tourists coming to valley.
