One militant killed, 2 cops injured in Kashmir

A militant was killed and two policemen were injured on Monday in a gunfight between security forces and extremists holed up in a house in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. The exchange of fire continued late in the evening.

One of the two militants believed to be in the house in Chokibal area of Kupwara district, 130 km from Srinagar, was killed in the operation launched by security forces on Monday evening.

An assistant sub-inspector and constable were injured in the first round of indiscriminate fire by the hiding militants.

There was no official confirmation on the number of militants holed up in the house. Security forces sealed off the area late in the evening and more reinforcements were being sent to the encounter site at the time of filing of this report.
