An official release issued by the Karnal police said that the process of conducting a polygraph test on him has also commenced.

The release said that the accused, Surender, a resident of Dera Nagla Farm had given his car to the other accused and hence was arrested.

It may be recalled that Kusum (21) of Sadarpur had eloped with one Karmbir on July 5, 2012. She stayed with him at police's Safe House, in Kurukshetra, till July 18, 2012 after marrying him.
Police said the couple had later started living at Karmbir's home at Chaduni Jattan, but the girl left him because of alleged torture.

She then started living at her maternal uncle's house at Ganjogarhi in Karnal, where she stayed till October 30, 2012.

However, on January 6, 2013, Karmbir complained to the police that his wife had gone missing.

Police investigated and arrested Rajbir, the father of the girl, on January 8, 2013, and during interrogation, he confessed to have killed his daughter on October 30, 2012, with the help of his two sons and had then buried her body in the courtyard. Later, he, his brother-in-law Rajinder and another accused dug out the body and transported it in a car and threw it in the canal near Rawar village in Karnal. The police had also arrested Rajinder.

The release said special diving team from Kurukshetra has been called to search the body in the canal and a letter had also been sent to the irrigation department to decrease the level of water. Search was on to find the victim's body, the release added.
