OPS-led AIADMK faction backs Venkaiah Naidu’s candidature for vice president

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Panneerselvam and sought support, a statement from AIADMK (Puratchithalaivi Amma) said.

The rebel AIADMK faction led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam extended support to NDA nominee M Venkaiah Naidu for the vice presidential polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Panneerselvam and sought support, a statement from AIADMK (Puratchithalaivi Amma) said.

“Panneerselvam informed the Prime Minister that the AIADMK (Puratchithalaivi Amma) will support Naidu” in the August 5 election, it said.

The faction, which has 12 MPs, earlier supported NDA’s Presidential nominee Ramnath Kovind.

The faction led by chief minister K Palaniswami also supported the NDA candidate for the President.
