Seven ordinances, four of which were promised by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, may be taken up for consideration by the Union cabinet on Thursday.

Although the ordinances were not on the agenda circulated on Tuesday, government sources said an additional agenda may be circulated. The cabinet is scheduled to meet in the evening.

The government sources said law minister Kapil Sibal had cleared the ordinances before he left for Mumbai.

“The ministries piloting the bills have been asked to ensure that the draft ordinances are circulated among the ministers as soon as possible,” said an official.

Showing an unusual swiftness, the law ministry cleared the draft ordinances in a day after it received the proposals.

The ministry cleared the grievance redress and timely delivery of services bill, disability rights bill, SC/ST atrocities bill, amendment to prevention of corruption act bill, Sebi amendment bill and a bill to increase financial jurisdiction of the Delhi high court.

Sources said if the cabinet is not able to take up these bills on Thursday, a special cabinet meeting may be called on Saturday.
