Ticket hopefuls eyeing the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi are lining up at the Trinamool Congress headquarters in the Capital. More than 150 applications have been submitted till now, party sources said.
“Applications are pouring in at our office. People with good profiles are expressing their wish to contest the Lok Sabha polls to uphold Mamata Banerjee’s ideals. The final decision on the candidates will be taken by Ms Banerjee. She will jointly campaign with Anna Hazare in Delhi,” said Mukul Roy, all India general secretary of the Trinamool Congress.
Applicants include retired judges, advocates, former IAS and IPS officers and even journalists. Party leaders, remained tight-lipped on their names.
Taking their poll campaign online, Trinamool party cadres have signed up for a Facebook page called ‘Trinamool Congress supporters, Delhi/NCR region’.
After roping in social activist Anna Hazare, Banerjee is all set for a joint campaign in the Capital in March. The party has plans for a pan-India spread, fielding candidates in north, south, west and northeastern parts of the country. The Trinamool chief has already kicked off her campaign from Tripura.
According to party sources, the party has been organising its network in Delhi for quite some time. After the recent meeting between Hazare and Banerjee, applications started pouring in at the party headquarters in the Capital. Senior leaders said the list of candidates would be prepared and sent to Banerjee for her approval. Sources said the Trinamool Congress chief would consult Hazare.
Party workers have already started preparations for another meeting in the Capital in March. The meeting will be held at Ramlila Maidan.
The Trinamool Congress has launched two websites, www.mamataforindia.com and www.didiforindia.com. The portals contain speeches and photos of the Trinamool Congress chief.
