Pakistani once again fired at Hamirpur, Mankote  and Balakote border belts along the LoC in Poonch district. The mortar shells hit civilian areas of Mankote and Mendhar belts.

Defence spokesperson said the firing started at about 2 am last night and continued till 4.30 pm on Monday morning.

“Pakistan fired mortars, rocket-propelled grenades. Army fired back with full force. The firing continued till Monday morning,” said defence spokesperson SN Acharya.

Villages in Mankote and Mendhar along LoC were also hit by Pak firing, where shells had landed. These areas are being hit by Pak for last three-day. Though there hasn’t been any migration but people fear the situation pre-cease fire days of 2003 and they would be forced to migrate.

“There was no loss of life and property,” said defence spokesperson.

There have been 14  ceasefire violations  in past nine days.

There have been 49 infiltration attempts  in area under 16 corps-which controls  225 km of LoC in Jammu divison- since January and eight infiltrators have been shot dead in this period.

Major general VP Singh, general officer commanding the 25 infantry division, had last evening said  the situation was under control and any act of infiltration or ceasefire violation would be met resolutely with power and full force.

He said there about 200-250 infiltrators sitting across the LoC for the last six-months.
