Patel elected Gujarat Speaker

Prof Mangaldas Patel was on Friday unanimously elected Speaker of the 11th Gujarat Assembly.


Parliamentary Affair Minister Ashok Bhatt proposed Patel's name in the first sitting of the House which was seconded by leader of the Opposition Amarsinh Choudhary.

Patel was the only candidate to file nomination for the post of Speaker on Thursday.

Protem Speaker Daulatbhai Desai declared in the House the unopposed election of Patel as the Speaker.

Immediately after the announcement, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Ashok Bhatt and Amarsinh Choudhary escorted Patel to the Speaker's chair.
