A legislator of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir and three of his guards were charged with attempted murder in Rajouri district on Tuesday.
The case was registered against the MLA, Qamar Hussain Choudhary, and his personal security officers after a complaint lodged by Ayaz Ahmad aka Shiki, a government schoolteacher, of Pululian Dassal in Rajouri.
The lawmaker dismissed the allegation, saying he was falsely implicated because he has been highlighting the police’s failure in checking the drug mafia in the district.
“The FIR against me is a conspiracy,” he told reporters and added that he will take up the matter with the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
An FIR under several sections of the Ranbir Penal Code was registered against the PDP legislator, a police officer said.
The complainant alleged that the PDP leader and his guards assaulted him over a political dispute and threatened to kill him.
“It happened around 7.40pm on Monday. The MLA and his guards allegedly thrashed the complainant because the victim did not vote for him in the assembly elections. The man was hospitalised after the assault,” a police source said.
But lawmaker Choudhary countered that the teacher was a habitual absentee from duty and was asked to mend his ways.
He said Ahmad and a colleague tried to stop his vehicle and may have been injured in a scuffle with his guards.
