Andhra Pradesh ministers who are divided on the Telangana statehood issue have come together and reached out to the people affected by cyclone Phailin, which pounded the coastal parts of the state.

This is the first time since July 30, when the Congress decided to go ahead with Telangana, that the Andhra Pradesh government is seen to be functioning as an entity.

On Saturday, ministers of the two regions took part in the cyclone review meetings with chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Revenue minister Raghuveera Reddy and health education minister Kondru Murali, along with essential equipment and services, have rushed to Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam, the worst-hit districts in the state.

Reddy directed chief secretary PK Mohanti and the administration to shift focus on speedy rescue and relief measures in areas hit by the cyclone.

Mohanti said no scope was left for any casualty,

In view of the storm, the government was able to convince the workers in the electricity and road transport departments and the teachers to call off their strike.

But the remaining Seemandhra employees were still on strike, said APNGOs (Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers) president Ashok Babu.

Seemandhra officials, especially revenue, medical, public works and civil supplies employees, who are on strike for more than two months, relaxed their agitation in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts to help the government.
