Prime Minister Narendra Modi has roped in his critic Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to celebrate one of the BJP’s favourite ideologues Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s birth centenary.

A 149-member national panel, constituted on Friday by Prime Minister, has Kumar and a few non-BJP leaders as its members. While the official release does not name any Congress member, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former PM HDDeve Gowda are part of the panel. Yoga guru Ramdev and lyricist Prasun Joshi are also part of the panel.

The panel, headed by Modi, will chalk out year-long programmes to mark the event. September 25 marks the beginning of the birth centenary year of the BJP ideologue and the day has been declared as ‘Antyodaya Diwas’ by the government.

The BJP has announced a slew of projects — from renaming Parayawaran Bhavan (that houses the ministry of environment) to Pandit Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan and announcing Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, a scheme designed to provide continuous power supply to rural areas to introducing him through school texts .

An executive committee under Rajnath Singh has been formed.
