Pollution in Udhampur city: HC issues notice to Udhampur DC

In a public interest litigation filed by Udhampur resident advocate Sanjeet Kumar regarding pollution problem in Udhampur city, the division bench of the state high court has issued notice to DC, Udhampur, and others.

In  an  application  written to the chief justice, the applicant portrayed a dismal picture of the town submitting that due to non lifting  of garbage, the  entire town has turned into a garbage dump. He said due to non-lifting of garbage there were chances of spreading epidemic in the city adding that the administration has failed to provide space to local municipality for dumping city garbage.

He said despite taking the matter with the authorities concerned and the same being repeatedly reported by local dailies, the administration and the government has turn a deaf ear towards the problem. The petitioner prayed for appropriate direction to authorities concerned in this regard.

The division bench comprising justice Virender Singh and justice Janak Raj Kotwal after hearing petitioner's advocate Jatinder Choudhary issued a notice to all respondents, including director local bodies, deputy commissioner, Udhampur, executive officer Municipal Counsel, Udhampur, and others to list the PIL in the week commencing October 28, 2013. They said Seema Shekhar additional advocate general should accept the notice on behalf of state respondent.
