Poor sports administration is the reason for the failure of Indian athletes to win medals at international sporting events, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said in Panaji on Monday.
Kejriwal met a delegation of sports administrators from Goa here.
“Kejriwal pointed to the pathetic state of sports administration in the country as the main reason for India’s failure to perform at international events, and promised to remove corruption and red-tape to improve the situation,” a statement by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said.
The AAP convener met the delegation of sports administrators from the field of basketball, chess, cricket, table tennis football, at a party volunteer’s home in Taleigao, near the state capital.
The delegation has requested the AAP to come up with a multi-tier sports policy aimed at giving appropriate focus on various levels of sports, such as general public, serious enthusiasts and professional athletes performing at the national and international levels.
