The Paonta Sahib administration after a week's probe finally sealed a portion of self-styled godman Asaram's ashram at Kunja Matraliyon village in Paonta Sahib on Friday.

Sources said it was established in the probe that the union government was the actual owner of the 14 bighas on which a portion of the ashram has been set up.

The mutation of the land was reverted by the union government last month. It was established in the probe that the evacuee land during the partition of India and Pakistan was given to Asaram, but it was withdrawn last month, thus the union government is the actual owner.

The Hindustan Times had highlighted on September 20 that there was a breach of law by Asaram's ashram at Paonta Sahib.

A joint team of the revenue department initiated the action on the ashram on Friday, in which settlement officer Ravinder Kanwar was also present.

A notice was also pasted on the door of the ashram on Thursday to apprise the ashram authorities about the proposed action of the administration.

Sources also said the probe of the remaining part of the ashram was still in progress, the report of which is to be submitted to the government in a couple of days.

Following a probe ordered by chief minister Virbhadra Singh, Paonta Sahib SDM Sharavan Manta had launched a probe over the suspected breach of law in the ashram.

Sources also said there could be a violation of Section 118 of the Land Reform and Tenancy Act in the ashram.

Prayers, protests continue for ‘people’s CM’ Jayalalithaa

Jayalalithaa is no more a Mudal Amaichar, chief minister, but for her countless devotees and party workers, she is a Makkal Mudalavar, people’s chief minister, which they consider far above the post she lost after a court convicted her of corruption.
