Potholes remain, approval for repair a long road away

Although New Gurgaon lies in MCG’s jurisdiction, the civic body has not built or repaired any road in the area.

Instead, it has spent Rs. 11 crore on repairing roads in old Gurgaon and also awarded projects worth Rs. 45 crore in the same area over the last one year.

The unusable Sahraul Road, for which  a number of corporate houses have been campaigning, has not seen any improvement. Only a 180-metre stretch of this originally 2-km road is now motorable.

The entire road is full of potholes and pits, notwithstanding the fact that foreign dignitaries and business tycoons from across the world visit factories and offices situated along this road everyday.

“Even till now, we continue to run from Haryana Urban Development Authority to the Public Works Department, despite the fact that a decision has been taken to transfer the road to HUDA,” said NS Grewal, director with a large export house.

“We do not know what we should do now. It took HUDA three months to draw up an estimate of Rs. 3.75 crore for this road and send it to its chief controller of finance in Chandigarh. The approval would take another few months. Ideally, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon should take care of the problems here in Gurgaon, and approve the estimates right here,” said Grewal.
