President Pranab Mukherjee could not visit the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand on Wednesday due to inclement weather.
According to officials, the Indian Air Force (AIF) chopper that was carrying the President attempted to land twice at the shrine located at a height of 3,581 metres. Additional Director General of Police Anil Raturi confirmed that the weather played spoilsport.
The President later returned to Jollygrant from where he flew back to the national capital, officials added.
This is the second year in a row when the President could not reach the shrine town that was devastated by flashfloods in 2013. Last year, the President was schedule to visit Kedarnath in May but bad weather disturbed his tour.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, President Mukherjee reached Jollygrant, where chief minister Harish Rawat and Governor KK Paul received him. Both of them accompanied the President in his journey.
