Punjab man marries LIC agent fraudulently, booked for rape

A 25-year-old married woman got a rape case registered on Saturday against her husband, whom she had married in 2012 considering him to be a bachelor.

Police have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape), 420 (fraud) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the victim.

The accused has been identified as Jasandeep Singh, 28, a resident of Sardulgarh of Mansa district of Punjab.

The victim stated in her complaint that she was an insurance agent (LIC) and had sold a policy to the accused in 2011. Thereafter, the accused started showing interest in her and they married at an Arya Samaj Temple in Sirsa in 2012 without informing their parents. They started living at Kirti Nagar colony of the district.

She said that a few days ago she came to know that he was already married in Punjab and also had a six-year-old daughter. When she confronted him, he allegedly thrashed her and threatened of dire consequences if she approached the police.

Police said efforts were on to arrest the accused.
