The abduction took place in Golden Avenue, in the eastern part of the city, around 7.40 pm. The woman - who works at a cellphone shop -  was returning home when she was dragged into a passing car from a bus stand. There were two youths inside - one was driving. The other, who sat in the back seat, had dragged her in, she said in her complaint to the police.

Later, two more youths got in and all four raped her in car, which moved through the city, playing loud music, said police commissioner Ram Singh on Tuesday.

"After an hour, she was abandoned near a school in the cantonment area, from where a police team rescued her," said Singh. A passer-by had called the police and also informed the woman's family.

The police took the woman to a hospital, where the doctors said her condition was stable.

A team headed by HS Brar, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) is investigating the case.

Three of the men have been identified as Aditya, Abhi and Rocky. "The woman told us the youths were addressing each other by these names," the commissioner added. No arrest has been made in the case so far.
