Social activist Anna Hazare proposes to seek directions from the ‘Janata’ (people) on his future course of action.

Making it clear that his Jantantra Morcha would neither contest elections nor support any political party, Hazare on Saturday declared that exactly five months from now, the Morcha’s future line of action would be decided by the people at a ‘jan sansad’ (Parliament of people) at Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi.

He, however, stressed that neither he nor the Morcha had any political ambitions.

“There is a need for a ‘Jan Kranti’ (people’s revolution) and people as well as politicians should be made to realise that the common man has the power to pull down governments,” he said while addressing media alongside his Jantantra Morcha colleague and former army chief Gen VK Singh, and others, in Amritsar.

Hazare and Singh parried queries on their stand regarding the yatra clashing with Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May next year. “It is a hypothetical question,” Gen Singh said with a smile.

Hazare said the ‘jan sansad’ could be avoided if political parties give their viewpoints on the 25 points that the Morcha had sent to them.

“So far, none of the parties has sent its views on these issues, including corruption, jan lokpal and empowerment of panchayati raj institutions,” he said.

Hazare will start a year-long, all-India tour from Sunday to campaign for a stronger Lokpal bill, electoral reforms and other issues.
