DMK president M Karunanidhi urged the Tamil Nadu government on Friday to “put an end to rumours” regarding the health of AIADMK chief and chief minister Jayalalithaa by providing proper information to the people, while wishing his arch rival a speedy recovery.

DMK president M Karunanidhi asked the Tamil Nadu government on Friday to put an end to rumours on the health conditions of chief minister J Jayalalithaa by releasing proper information as well as her photographs.

“As I had already mentioned, though I differ with her ideologically, it is my desire that she recovers soon and takes up official duties as usual,” Karunanidhi said in a statement.

He said although the Apollo Hospital, where the CM was admitted on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration, was issuing bulletins about her health, “some unwanted rumours” were deliberately being floated about her condition.

The DMK leader suggested that photographs of the chief minister should be released through the media to quell these rumours.

He reiterated that AIADMK supremo’s health was a matter of public concern and all details should be made available to the people to end speculations that were doing more harm than good.

Karunanidhi said he had not heard any news of anyone, including Union ministers, meeting Jayalalithaa inside the hospital.

“Why has not the governor visited her so far? Why hasn’t been a committee of doctors constituted even after one week of her suffering from fever?” the DMK leader asked.

AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswathi, however, said Jayalalithaa, 68, will be back home soon after being cleared by the doctors who have put her under observation.

A health bulletin issued on Thursday night said the chief minister was responding well to treatment and that she has been advised a few more days of rest.

Karunanidhi had asked for a white paper on Jayalalithaa’s health condition a few weeks after she took the oath as the CM amid speculations that her failing health was the reason behind her infrequent public appearances.

The government came down heavily against him, saying there was nothing to worry about the chief minister’s health.
