Yoga guru Ramdev has refuted allegations that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben had been kept in isolation in one of his ashrams in Rishikesh.

Defending Modi on the issue, he said the BJP leader had no need to hide his wife. “It is absurd. Jashodaben is not a terrorist or a criminal who needs to be kept hidden. Moreover, she does not harbour any ill feelings for Modi-ji,” the yoga guru said, adding that Modi’s life was “completely transparent”.

Saying he suspected Congress behind the controversy, he said its leaders had a lot to hide. “Rahul Gandhi is leading a bachelor’s life out of compulsion. He wants to marry a foreigner but his mother feels it will impede his becoming the PM,” he claimed.

Countering the charge that his organisations were funding Modi’s poll campaign, Ramdev said none of his trusts had given even a “chavanni” to the BJP. Instead, he said, the Congress was steeped in corruption: “Rahul is reaping what his grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru had sowed.”

Throwing his weight behind Modi, he predicted a landslide victory for the party. “The NDA will easily cross the 300-mark and form the next government,” he said.

On his yoga camps coinciding with the general elections, the yoga guru said he had been touring the country for many years to expose the ‘corrupt’ UPA regime.
