A teacher has been arrested for allegedly sodomising several young students at a primary school on the outskirts of Bikaner.
The incident comes on the heels of a similar sexual assault in a Bangalore school, where a 6-year-old was allegedly raped by a skating instructor.
On Saturday, parents of the students of the government school in Gajner, 10 km from Bikaner city, thrashed the suspect, Sanjay Sharma, before handing him over to the police.
This is not the first time Sharma — a grade-III teacher — has been accused of sexual assault.
On July 21, a similar complaint was disposed of when Sharma, in the presence of the police, apologised to the parents of a student who accused him of sexual assault.
The teacher has since been suspended and Bikaner superintendent of police Santosh Chalke said they were investigating if Sharma had victimised other students.
His alleged activities came to light after a Gajner resident filed a complaint with the police on Saturday morning, saying his grandson — a Class 5 student — narrated how Sharma would take a bunch of students to a nearby pond and sexually exploit them.
The teacher would claim he was taking the boys to feed fish, the complainant said.
Six other students have also come forward and supported the accusations.
Sharma has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 377 and sections of the child sex abuse law POCSO.
