BJP president Rajnath Singh along with 50 MPs and MLAs from Uttar Pradesh went to meet President Pranab Mukherjee over Muzaffarnagar riots. He demanded that chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s government be dismissed and also wanted a probe by a Supreme Court-appointed judge into the recent communal clashes there.

Singh and others wanted immediate imposition of President’s rule in UP, alleging that the state government had failed to take effective actions in controlling communal violence.

Singh, who was refused permission by the state government to visit the violence-affected areas earlier this week, said “lawlessness is prevailing in UP. There is an emergency-like situation and no government exists in the state. So, we have demanded President’s Rule. An enquiry in the riots should be done by a Supreme Court appointed judge.”

Singh along with other leaders including Uma Bharati, Hukum Singh, Laxmikant Bajpayee and Satyapal Malik, submitted a memorandum to the President.
