Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and BJP workers clashed on Saturday after the former waved black flags at Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar in protest against the booing of chief minister Hemant Soren in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence on Thursday.

The clashes at Hinoo Chowk on Airport Road, which left five JMM supporters and two policemen injured, halted the minister's cavalcade for nearly 20 minutes.

The convoy broke free for a trip to the state BJP office in Harmu after the police lathicharged the clashing crowds.

Tomar was in the state for laying the foundation stone of the ESCI hospital in Jamshedpur's Adityapur area.

After the heckling of the chief minister, the JMM had announced no union minister would be allowed to enter Jharkhand.

Soon after Tomar's arrival, about 50 JMM workers waved black flags at him. But they had to face the ire of about 300 lathi-wielding BJP workers.

JMM leader Antu Tirkey said, "BJP men cornered us and wielded sticks and batons. It was a horrendous 15 minutes for us."

The BJP rubbished JMM allegations, saying it was the police who beat up the ruling party's supporters for blocking the union minister's convoy.

Reacting to the clash, the CM said "BJP's unruly behavior is out in public", while Tomar said "the ruling side has started behaving like the opposition".

Tomar said Union ministers come to the state to deliver development projects and Soren should prevent such incidents. He also denied that 'Modi-Modi' chants on Thursday amounted to heckling of the CM.
