As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, Tata Steel is imparting football training to the youths of Maoist-hit Jhatijharna village.

The place is about 25 km away from the Ghatsila block.

The village is situated on the Jharkhand-Bengal border.

Chief of CSR department of Tata Steel Biren Buta said, "At present, there are 25 youths who are getting regular coaching. Our football coach of Tata Steel Rural Development Society Kausar Sameer is guiding the youths. We have also appointed a local coach to train the aspiring footballers."

He added, "The step has been taken in the interests of youths so that they do not go and join the Maoists. The rural youths have a good future in football and if properly trained they can become good players in the future."

Assistant commandant of CRPF posted in Bhomradih picket Om Prakash said, "We regularly distribute football kits and other sports materials to encourage local youths in sports so that they are not coaxed by the rebels. On March 3, we provided two set of football kits at Jhatijharna which included 24 sets of jersey and boots, two footballs and two nets."
Village head of Jhatijharna Bhagirath Singh said, "We welcome the move by Tata Steel and the CRPF as they are doing their best to encourage youths in football. It is very popular here and youths take a lot of interest in the game. Proper training would help them in going a long way."

Ailing Jharkhand prisoner kept in police station

Delay in treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has forced an undertrial prisoner from Jharkhand’s Saraikela Jail, arrested for alleged involvement in Maoist activities, to stay in unhygienic conditions on the verandah of the Hauz Khas police station in south Delhi for the past 10 days, his family members have alleged.
