For the first time, four polling booths in Jharkhand, which fall under Khunti constituency, will be run solely by women in the second phase of election on April 17.

Returning officer (Khunti) Samson Soy said that they took the initiative to create a women-friendly environment at the polling booths.

“Women-friendly polling booths are intended to increase the number of women voters,” said Soy.

Earlier, Khunti administration had submitted a requisition to the election commission to set up women-friendly
polling booths in the constituency.

“In Khunti, polling stations numbering 154, 156, 161 and 170 will be exclusively for women,” said Rai Mahimapar Ray, Khunti sub-divisional officer.

He said, “Women polling officers will be deputed at the selected booths. Also, there will be adequate security outside the booths.”

Candidates in Khunti constituency have also appreciated the initiative of the district administration.
