The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will contest only four Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand in the 2014 general elections, the lowest number ever for the party.

The party has conceded 10 seats to its alliance partner Congress.

While critics have termed it as an "alliance compulsion", JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said it was a move calculated to arrest the split of votes and win maximum seats in Jharkhand.

He was confident that the party's representation would go up in the Lok Sabha this time.

The JMM had entered into a pre-poll alliance with the Congress, forming the coalition government in 2013.

The JMM nominees in Jharkhand are Sibu Soren from Dumka, Vijay Hansda from Rajmahal, Jagannath Mahto from Giridih and Niroop Mahanty from Jamshedpur.

In the 2009 elections, the JMM had contested eight seats and cornered 11.69% votes.

The party had six MPs from Bihar, before Jharkhand was created, in the 10th Lok Sabha.

However, its seats were reduced to two in the last Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the party is contesting from 20 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar and six from West Bengal.

In Bihar, the JMM candidates are Upendra Ravidas from Jamui, Rahul Ranjan from Jehanabad, Ashok Kumar from Gaya, Shanti Raman Singh from Munger, Narayan Hansda from Kishanganj, Fagu Marandi from Purnea, Baleshwar Marandi from Katihar and Amresh Prasad from Balmikinagar.
