A 15-year-old unmarried girl was ousted from her house while she was delivering a baby by her enraged father at Pathri village under Baharagora police station on Monday.

Sita (name changed) had an affair with 22-year-old Sambhu Nayak of the same village. Though initially Nayak promised to marry her, he stranded Sita after she became pregnant and denied having any relation with her.

On Monday night, Sita had just given birth to a malnourished child when Naba Mahakur, her father, woke up from his sleep and ousted the mother and baby, who was still connected to her with the umbilical cord. After spending the night under a tree, the mother and child were rescued by the villagers in the morning. They took her to the nearest government primary health center (PHC).

Doctors at PHC admitted the girl but sensing the complexity of her child’s condition, they referred Sita to a medical hospital in Jamshedpur. One of the villagers said, “We are trying to contact her mother.”
