VBU to put one teacher in more than one college

In its bid to deal with the crisis arising out of shortage of teachers, the Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) has decided to depute one teacher in more than one college of the city.

The university administration has already sent a notification in this connection asking the college principals to execute it. University sources said the teachers of a particular subject will have to travel to different colleges for taking classes as there is acute shortage of teachers in the university.

They will be assigned to teach their subject in other constituent colleges which are near to their parent colleges. Teachers will be given Rs. 200 per day as TA to travel colleges less than 30 km and if the college distance is more than 30 km, they will be given Rs. 300 per day.

Also, the retired teachers and research scholars have been invited to take classes on contract basis and they will be will be given Rs. 250 per class.

Talking to HT, vice chancellor of VBU Gurdeep Singh said they had no other option but to ask the teachers to take classes in more than one college.

“Permanent appointment of teachers or staff is made by the government but as we are facing acute crisis, we have made this arrangement. Classed affected in colleges because of lack of teachers so we decided to introduce guest lecture pattern in the university to overcome the crisis,” he said.
