A woman in Jharkhand's Dumka district killed her unemployed husband, who used to harass her regularly, following a quarrel by pouring boiling oil on his head while he was asleep.
Police said the accused, Rubi Tudu, 28, had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The mother of three daughters has confessed to the crime.
"She showed no regret for killing her husband, Robot Tudu, 30. Instead, she justified her action," Yadu Sah, a senior police official at the local police station, said.
The incident took place at Belbuni, a tribal village, around 50 kilometers from Dumka district headquarters on Monday night.
Police said the couple's relationship was strained, as the woman was the sole earning member of the family while her unemployed husband was reluctant to take up a job despite repeated requests.
"The woman would keep requesting her husband to do something to help the family, but he would simply ignore and waste time. This was the reason behind their constant quarrels," the police official said.
Rubi Tudu poured boiling cooking oil on Robot Murmu's head after a fight on Monday night. Neighbours called a quack, but he succumbed to injuries.
Merciless killings in tribal families in Jharkhand's countryside are quite common. Many blame regular consumption of hooch and superstition for the incidents.
