Raped Ranchi girl burns self

A graduation first year student gang raped by her boyfriend and three others on March 17 immolated herself at her residence in Ranchi's Sikidiri locality on Wednesday.


Family members rushed the teenager to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where Ranki Singh (name changed) in her dying statement narrated her ordeals to the police.

The deceased in her dying statement said, on March 17 around 5 pm her boyfriend, Preet Ranjan, called her to the Getalsudh dam side to discuss their plans of eloping.

"Our parents were against the relationship but we wanted to marry," she said.

The victim said as she reached the dam, Preet and his three friends raped her for more than three hours and later fled away dumping her at the spot.

A relative of the victim told HT that the accused is apparently getting married in April.

"The next day Rinki had informed us about the incident. We did not lodge a case to evade social stigma," said her uncle.

Elder sister said outraged of her modesty, Rinki still tried convincing the accused to marry her but he blatantly turned down her request and instead humiliated her."

Rinki's father has lodged an FIR against four people. The accused have been identified as Preet Ranjan, Uttam Kumar, Jayant George Kujur and Gauri Shankar Munda.

Ranchi Rural police superintendent AV Minz said the matter is being probed.

"It has been established that the duo were in a relationship," he said.
