A 16-year-old girl was gangraped and killed, allegedly by her relatives over a property dispute, late Wednesday night in Rohtas district of south-western Bihar.
The class-10 student had gone out of her house at Budhuan village around 9pm on Wednesday after receiving a call on her mobile phone, said her family members. When she did not return till midnight, her family began searching for her.
The body was found around 3am on Thursday in an orchard behind her house, police said.
In the FIR, the girl’s father has named his brother, the brother’s son and five other relatives as the accused.
Police said there was enmity between the victim’s father and his brother over property.
“The probe so far indicates that the two families were embroiled in a bitter property dispute. They had confronted each other just before the victim went missing on Wednesday night,” said a police official at Akorhi Gola police station.
“We are searching for the victim’s mobile phone to get leads through her call details.”
Rohtas superintendent of police Vikash Burman said the victim’s post-mortem report confirmed rape and investigations were on.
