RJD chief, Lalu Prasad, is clearly miffed. When his one-time friend and close colleague, Ram Vilas Paswan's son, Chirag called him a 'retired joker' while campaigning for the by-polls in Bihar, which will take place on August 21, Lalu was quick to react.

"There is an egg, speaking to the hen," he said, reminding Chirag who the more senior politician is.

Politics has often witnessed colourful war of words and these by-polls are no different.

For instance, JD (U) spokesperson likened the BJP to the Ebola virus. "The BJP's communal agenda makes it like Ebola - those touched by it die," he said, as BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav coined the word Thugbandhan (a tie-up of thieves) taking inspiration from the word Gathbandhan (alliance) to describe the coming together of the RJD and JD (U).

Meanwhile, JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, is not given to much colour in his speeches but he did warn of the Modi tsunami bringing in destruction, even as Nand Kishore quickly pointed out that Nitish was once known as Lalu's fiercest critic.

Paswan, whom Lalu once called a chameleon for changing parties 'without philosophy or principle', was quick to retort too. 'Lalu is a medicine with an expiry date, while Nitish is a rancchor (one who flees battle)," he said.

There are 10 seats up for grabs in the by-polls. And with just a few days remaining, the war of words has just begun.
