In view of the written assurance by nearly 100 parliamentarians and union ministers, Jats have decided to call off their agitation for reservation in government jobs at a rally on May 10 in Delhi.
All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti state unit president Dharam Pal Chhot said this a press meet at Hansi in the district on Monday.
"Jats have been sitting on a dharna at Jantar Mantar in since March 5. As union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde has acceded to our demand, we will call off the agitation. Our president Yash Pal Malik has warned the Centre not to backtrack from the promise otherwise we will again agitate," Chhot said.
He said a memorandum would be given to the chief minister on May 15 urging the state government to remove discrepancies in the provision made for the Jat reservation. "The state government is bound to follow decision taken in a joint meeting on March 24. We are waiting for the verdict of the court on the issue."
Jat leaders Ram Bhagat Malik, Mahendar Singh Punia, Joginder Singh, Dilbag Singh, Subedar Om Prakash and Ram Sarup were present at the press meet.
