RJD chief Lalu Prasad released a finely balanced manifesto on Sunday, announcing a long list of promises mainly for minorities and even for the fringe players in the polls, the economically and educationally weak section of upper castes.

He said, “We will ensure that the reservation policy is implemented not only in jobs, but also in promotions in both private sector and judiciary.”

Prasad said the RJD would take initiative to include Dalit Muslims and Dalit Christians in the scheduled caste category and grant legal status to the Waqf Board.
Although the manifesto was for the Lok Sabha elections, it predominantly focused on the state issues, with an eye on different sections of voters.

Underlining the need to fight communal forces, Prasad said the coming elections were crucial and people needed to tread cautiously. “They (the BJP) have very deftly tried to divert people’s attention from communalism to corruption.”

He said there was need for peace, which will beget prosperity. “Remember, the BJP is just a mask, while the real face is the RSS.” The RJD manifesto also promised an anti-riot force with adequate representation of minorities.
