The runaway couple who became the victims of the latest honour killing in Rohtak was murdered in the most gruesome fashion. Postmortem examination found that the body of Dharmender Barak bore seven stab wounds. Nidhi Barak’s body bore six.

According to the report from Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, a double-edged sharp weapon had been used to kill Dharmender. “He was beheaded and his hands and legs were broken. The stab wounds had pierced through his organs,” said a doctor who was part of the team that conducted the postmortem.

Nidhi’s body was sliced into six parts. She was beheaded as well, and the torso was chopped in two. Her arms and legs were hacked off.

The couple from Gharnawati village, 8 km from Rohtak, was allegedly killed by the girl’s parents for bringing “disgrace” to the family. According to the community’s tradition, marriage within the same gotra and the same village is taboo.

On Saturday, police recovered five sharp-edged weapons from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, which, they claimed, were the murder weapons. So far, five persons including girl’s parents, uncle and brother, have been arrested for the murders.
