After being allegedly raped by her neighbour on Saturday, a 16-year-old girl of Naya Baans village of Sampla block of the district allegedly committed suicide on Saturday.

Ravinder alias Bholu, 21, was arrested late on Saturday night after villagers, along with the girl's family, blocked the Sampla-Sonepat road.

As per details, a few villagers had seen Ravinder coming out of the victim's house on Saturday and when her parents questioned the victim, who was already in trauma, she allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at her house.

Police arrested the accused after registering a case under sections 376 (rape), 306 (abetment to suicide), 302 (murder) and 452 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Talking to HT, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Anil Kumar Yadav said: “Protesters demanded the girl's post-mortem to be conducted again and wanted the accused to be booked on rape charge. After investigations, both the demands were met.”

He said: “After conducting fresh post-mortem, a doctors' panel sent samples to Madhuban on Sunday and forensic reports are awaited.”

He said the accused was produced in a local court on Sunday, which sent him to two-day police custody.
