The families of the hostage sailors- Ravinder Gulia, Satnam Singh of Ambala, Prashant Chauhan of Shimla and MK Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir had raised the issue at various levels in the past one year, urging the Indian government to intervene to secure the hostages' release.

Sampa said, "We have lost hope with the government and I have vowed never to vote again."
