Rohtak-based sailor Ravinder Gulia's wife Sampa Arya was all praise for Pakistan's human rights' activist Ansar Burney, who had negotiated his release, after paying a ransom of $2.1 million (Rs 9.4 crore).

For the ransom amount, the Egyptian shipping company was to contribute $1 million, while Pakistan and India were to raise $500,000 and $600,000, respectively, Sampa said.

The families of the hostage sailors- Ravinder Gulia, Satnam Singh of Ambala, Prashant Chauhan of Shimla and MK Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir had raised the issue at various levels in the past one year, urging the Indian government to intervene to secure the hostages' release.

Sampa said, "We have lost hope with the government and I have vowed never to vote again."
