A 27-year-old woman allegedly foiled robbery bid on Wednesday by chasing down her snatcher who tried running away after stealing her bag. The woman, identified as Dimpy Gulati, has been awarded by Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain for her act of bravery.

She works as a relationship manager with PNB metlife here in the district. The police said she was going for work on her scooty towards Jhajjar Road when a motorcycle borne man coming from behind snatched her bag near Jain Jati Gali, and tried fleeing the spot. The bag contained cash, cards, mobile phone and some important bank documents.

The police said Gulati chased the snatcher on her scooty and smashed it in his motorcycle to stop him. After the snatcher fell down on the road, she shouted for help from locals.

A police spokesperson said, “The snatcher hit himself with a brick and threatened her to accuse her in false case. But she did not deter and continued shouting for help from locals, who reached and caught him.”

The locals informed the police, who reached the spot and nabbed the accused. A video of the locals thrashing the accused in presence of cops has also gone viral of social media.

The police said the accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh of Sunariya village of the district. He has been booked under sections 379B, 511 and 309 of the Indian Penal Code.

“Preliminary investigation reveals the accused is an alcoholic and committed the robbery in an inebriated condition. His criminal record is being verified,” the spokesperson added.

After the arrest, the brave woman, a resident of sector 1 here, along with her family was called by Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain to his office, where she was awarded for her bravery. “She has come out as an inspiration for all the women,” Nain said.
