The nine-year-old Russian girl who was allegedly raped at Arambol beach on January 26 has confirmed that the photograph released by the police matches with that of the accused, her lawyer said today.
"The victim and the mother have confirmed that the image shown by the media of the wanted person, is one of the men involved in the crime," Vikram Varma, representing the girl, told PTI.
The photograph was shown to the girl this evening in presence of her mother by him and she confirmed that the face is that of the accused who sexually abused her in the waters, Varma said.
Varma, who is also representing consul general of Russian Federation, said the police would be informed about the identification.
Police who are investigating the crime had zeroed in on one Aman Bharadwaj, working as machine operator in a pharmaceutical company at Dhargal Industrial Estate. Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravindra Yadav said the accused was absconding after reporting for duty at 8 am.
Police sources said the picture of the accused was available from the company office which was circulated to various police stations, railway stations and all the exit points of the state.
Officials stated that the accused and his accomplice would soon be arrested.
