Sachin Tendulkar fans, who had been waiting to see their hero bat since Wednesday, would have been happy to see the maestro step out to bat earlier than expected on day two of the Kolkata Test on Thursday. But their joy was shortlived as he fell soon enough for a meagre 10 runs.

The stadium went berserk when Tendulkar walked out to bat in the 21st over. Both overnight players, openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan had been sent back to the pavillion by Shane Shillingworth and big things were expected of the master.

Tendulkar went through the same routine - looked back at the sun on top of the clubhouse while entering, walked up to the pitch and took guard.

The next over he faced from Shillingworth, he seemed to be his prolific self. He scored two nice boundaries off the off-spinner through the mid wicket area in the same over.

Cheteshwar Pujara left soon and the stage looked perfectly set for a strong innings from the Master Blaster. But that was not to be.

The next over, Shillingworth bowled a doosra, the ball pitching on middle and straightning. It went past his bat and hit him high on the back leg.

Later, TV reviews showed the inpact was above the stumps and it would have missed. But DRS not being availabe for the series, the master had to leave, victim of an unfortunate decision.

His fans gave him a standing ovation as he left the field but it was a muted, dejected response.
