Prime Minister Narendra Modi got another new face in his team. Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Sanjeev Kumar Singla has replaced Vikram Misri as Modi's Private Secretary.

Misry who was working with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and assisted Modi during the first two months, is now headed to Madrid as Indian ambassador to Spain.

Singla returns from a key Indian embassy—in Israel—to take over the plum job. He is a director-level officer.

Singla's posting comes close on the heels of the appointment of Rajeev Topno—a Gujarat cadre IAS as the private secretary of the PM. The PM usually has two PS, one each from IAS and IFS.

The 1997-batch IFS, Singla, had earlier worked as director to the then former Foreign Secretary, Ranjan Mathai.

A DoPT order Sunday said that the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved Singla's new posting. Misri, a 1989 batch IFS officer, will however stay in PMO till July-end to ensure a smooth transition.

The ACC also approved private secretaries to two cabinet ministers -- Harsimrat Kaur Badal and M Venkaiah Naidu. While 1990-batch Indian Trade Service officer Hardeep Singh will assist Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal S Suresh Kumar, a 2000 batch IAS (Andhra Pradesh cadre) is now PS to Urban Development minister Venkaiah Naidu.
